Cooking with Kids: Ice Cold Treats to Cool You Down

Posted by Danielle

When the sun is out and the day is lovely, spending time outside is a sure thing.  You may spend the afternoon riding bike, pitching a tent, running through the sprinkler in the backyard or running around with friends in the park.  Any of these fun activities are definitely going to work up a monstrous appetite!  Nothing beats an ice-cold treat to fill that grumbly belly, bring down the temperature and re-hydrate your body.  Today I’d love to share

some cool and tasty treasures I have found on Pinterest.  These are as fun to make as they are to eat, too!

From Babble.com: Frozen Fruit Ice Cubes: Flavor Your Soda in Style
This has got to be one of the best ways to sweeten a glass of juice or water!  It is also super easy.  All you need is some fruit, a blender and a bit of juice.  A helpful adult can accompany  this project as you will need help using a blender/food processor.  These little ice cube gems are cool and funky!

From Urban Walls: Yummy Drinks for Entertaining!
Summer pineapple strawberry cooler!  I can’t wait to make a pitcher of this fruity goodness!  The fun fruit skewers in this drink make it a fantastic thirst quenching snack.  Invite your friends over and get mixing!

From 3191 Miles Apart: Fruit Popsicles
The minute I saw these popsicles I knew that I had to make them.  My two favorite foods, yogurt and fruit, together in frozen harmony!  You can use any flavor of yogurt and any fruit; customize them however you want to!  Ask mom or dad if you have some popsicle molds at home or you can always use cups and lolly sticks from the store.

From Babble.com: Frozen Jello Fruit Pops
These popsicle ideas keep getting better!  This recipe has two ingredients!!  How easy is that?  All you need is Jello and fruit and some time for freezing.  Use part fruit juice to make the jello and it will be even fruitier!  Again, if you don’t have popsicle molds, use disposable cups and wooden lolly sticks.

I know you are as excited as I am to get in the kitchen and attack the fruit bowl!!  Gather the family together and invite your friends, too.  All of these summer day coolers are easy and healthy; what an awesome combination!  The next time you finish an afternoon of sports and outdoor adventure, reach for an amazing frozen goodie to refresh and recharge!

Now get your aprons on and get to it!

Happy Family Cooking Everyone!
