Kids Cooking Recipe: Summer Drink Specialities

Posted by Danielle

When summer finally arrives it is cause for major outdoor celebrations.  Who doesn’t love the sunshine?  So many opportunities lie ahead of us during the upcoming months.  We’ll be outside grilling, enjoying picnics, reading in the park, running through the sprinkler or painting a picture of the sunset.  All of these activities are sure to make a person thirsty!  With all of the fresh fruits and herbs that the summer sun provides us, we can make some amazingly delicious drinks and smoothies!

Here are some refreshing drinks I have found via Pinterest that I’d like to share with the Two Kids Cooking crowd!

Honey Ginger Lemonade from GormanadeInTheKitchen.com
This lemonade tastes zesty, sweet and fantastic!  You will definitely notice the benefits of making your own cool drink rather than store bought powder mixes.  This lemonade always wins!

Minted Mandarin and Strawberry Coolers
Here is another fabulous drink loaded with vitamin C!  It calls for freshly squeezed mandarin juice, but it is definitely ok to use your favorite brand of orange juice concentrate.  I also love how pretty this drink looks!

The next recipe was inspired from the FrostedBakeShop.Blogspot.co.uk–we cut back the sugar a bit and added more strawberries…

 Watermelon and Strawberry Lemonade!
4 cups cubed and seeded watermelon
3/4 cup strawberries, halved
1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
¼ cup white sugar
1 cups water (you may substitute Sprite or 7-up instead of water)

All you have to do is blend this one together in your blender.  It tastes so yummy!! (It’s the pictures that Soph made!)

If you would rather have a smoothie with a bit more fruit, here are my favorite summer blendables filled with fresh and healthy fruit!

Pina Colada Smoothie from PaulaDeen.com
I adore anything that tastes like a tropical dream come true, so when I found this smoothie I was totally excited!  It’s healthy and easy to make, too!  Don’t forget the pretty pineapple garnish to make it look extra special.

Clean Eating Cinnamon Apple Smoothe from TheGraciousPantry.com
This smoothie is ultra-healthy, it sneaks a bit of spinach in and you won’t notice!  I make this for breakfast before I go swimming for extra energy.  I usually substitute coconut milk for almond milk, but you could use regular cow’s milk.  Use whatever you fancy!  It always tastes wonderful and satisfying!

Vegan Mango Coconut Green Smoothie from KitchenTreaty.com
Last, but not least, is this lovely green glass of goodness made with one of my top fruits….mango!  You will be instantly amazed at the fabulous taste of this healthy treat!

So there you have it, a few recipes to get you started on your summer drink adventures.  I am sure all of these will be winning thirst quenchers every time!

Remember that drinks and smoothies have a multitude of different options….make substitutions or additions whenever you want  to personalize it!

Happy Summer Everyone!

Oh these look so tasty. I just read about lemonade muddled with strawberries and basil, which sounds delicious too. When my kids are in the mood for a smoothie, we usually just look in the fridge and see what we have to work with… they love it.

It is soo tasty. We’ve been doing lots of smoothies lately too, the same way. And incorporating avocados for creaminess…my kids love ’em!
