The Kids Cook Monday: Tuna Burgers

Posted on 05 April 2010 by the Mom

You may have seen this episode just a couple of weeks ago, but we thought it was worth a re-share for The Kids Cook Monday. This recipe is great to make with the whole family, getting all messy with some hands-on burger making. Tuna is also a lighter alternative to the standard, and here at the Two Kids house, Alex and Soph actually prefer them to hamburgers.

Tuna Burgers:
3, 12oz cans of tuna
2 eggs
3/4 cup of saltine crackers, crumbled
1/2 tsp lemon pepper
salt to taste
butter
hamburger buns

Open your cans of tuna and drain the water off. With your hands, combine the tuna, eggs, saltines, lemon pepper and salt. Once everything is all mixed together, form burgers.

On the stove, heat a frying pan with butter (although these are good on the grill too, just make sure they’re extra moist so they stay together). Once the butter is melted, add your tuna patties and cook one each side until browned.

Place each patty on a bun and serve– we recommend a little mayo too :D

Now go, get in the kitchen and have some fun cooking together!

Mom, Alex and Sophia

Two Kids Cooking TV: Tuna Burgers

Posted on 20 March 2010 by the Mom

Fish of any kind is always popular at the 2 Kids house, and tuna is one of our favorites–fresh or canned, baked or fried, Alex, Soph and I all love it. In the summer during prime grilling weather, we like to expand our burger palette by throwing some tuna burgers in the mix. They’re also easy to make on the stove, as we demonstrate in this week’s episode–and, they are perfect for making with the kids!

Enjoy the show, and if you want to try our burger recipe, check out our recipe of the week.

Recipe of the Week: Pickley Tuna Sandwiches

Posted on 28 August 2009 by the Mom

Alex is a lover of tuna, fresh and canned. This recipe is a little twist on plain ‘ole fashioned tuna sandwiches that he loves and even the non-canned fish lover Sophie will eat.

Pickley Tuna Sandwiches
1 can tuna packed in water, drained
1/2 capful of lemon juice in a jar or about 1 1/2 tsp. Fresh squeezed lemon juice
2 to 3 Tablespoons Mayonnaise
A Dash of Lemon Pepper
3 or 4 mini-dill pickles or about 1/2 of large dill pickle, chopped
4 slices of bread

Mix all of the ingredients together in a bowl and then spread 1/2 on one slice of bread and 1/2 on the other. Top each with the additional slices of bread. Cut into triangles or rectangles (whichever you prefer) and serve.
